Buy a PS2 Laser Repair Kit: PVR-802W, KHS-400B/C, and Cleaning Supplies

Buy the laser for your model, not “a PS2 laser”. Slim and Fat lasers are different parts.

Short answer: Affiliate disclosure: links marked “Buy” may earn this site a commission at no extra cost to you (Amazon tag oliver062-20; see the affiliate disclosure). Every guide also names a non-affiliate alternative. First decide whether you need a new laser at all: cleaning and a real-DVD test (see the laser guide) come before buying. If you do buy, Slim consoles use the PVR-802W and Fat consoles use the KHS-400B/C family — ordering the wrong one is the most common repair-kit mistake.

Slim laser

The PVR-802W laser is the Slim replacement. Non-affiliate alternative: a PVR-802W from a reputable parts seller, ideally one that states the part number on the listing (not just “PS2 Slim laser”). Check your Slim’s exact model before ordering — the PVR-802W family has variants, and a listing that will not name the part number is a listing to skip.

Fat laser

The KHS-400B/C laser reference is a search link for the Fat family. Non-affiliate alternative: a KHS-400B or KHS-400C from a parts seller, matched to your Fat model. If the seller cannot say which of B or C it is, do not buy — the two are not interchangeable in every Fat.

Cleaning supplies

The isopropyl alcohol supplies (90%+ IPA, lint-free swabs) are the cleaning kit. Non-affiliate alternative: 90%+ IPA and lint-free swabs from any pharmacy or electronics shop. Do not use rubbing alcohol with added oils or fragrances, and do not use a cotton bud that sheds fibres onto the lens.

Failure = kit guide

If a new laser still fails, work the laser guide — the anti-static solder blob, ribbon seating, and disc media explain most “new laser, same failure” cases, and a second laser rarely fixes a solder-blob problem.

Next steps

Verified against: Laser models PVR-802W (Slim) and KHS-400B/C (Fat) per PS2 repair documentation, checked 2026-10-24. No price is quoted — the old FAQ’s “under $15” line was removed in A batch for exactly this reason.
