Buy a PS2 Slim MX4SIO Kit: Adapter and microSD Card
The cheapest storage upgrade for a Slim — but remember the MX4SIO card cannot boot the console by itself.
Short answer: Affiliate disclosure: links marked “Buy” may earn this site a commission at no extra cost to you (Amazon tag oliver062-20; see the affiliate disclosure). Every guide also names a non-affiliate alternative. You need an MX4SIO adapter and a microSD card, plus a FreeMCBoot or Fortuna card to boot OPL (the MX4SIO adapter is storage, not a boot card). The adapter is a small, simple board — buy from a seller with a return policy, because a small share of hand-assembled adapters have fit or contact issues.
Adapter
The MX4SIO adapter reference is a search link because the adapter is sold under several names (MX4SIO, MC2SIO, SIO2SD) by many small sellers. Non-affiliate alternative: any MX4SIO/MC2SIO adapter from a local or community-recommended seller. Check the listing photos: the board should be clean, the microSD slot should seat the card fully, and the memory-card connector should look straight. If the adapter feels slightly uneven in the slot, that is normal per vendor notes — what is not normal is a card that will not stay seated.
microSD card
Any reputable-brand microSD card works for a first setup; 64–128GB is a comfortable size for a library, and smaller cards are fine for testing. Non-affiliate alternative: a microSD card you already own, formatted per your OPL build (exFAT 32KB clusters first, FAT32 as fallback — see the setup guide). Compatibility varies by card brand and OPL build: if one card fails to list games, try another brand before replacing the adapter.
Still needed: a boot card
MX4SIO does not replace the FreeMCBoot/Fortuna card. You still need a genuine 8MB card with a boot trigger installed (see the install kit guide). Budget for both if you are starting from stock: install kit first, MX4SIO second.
